Climate

Hot to very hot in summer, especially in the Lowveld. Relatively mild in winter, but can become very cold in the Highveld. Mpumalanga is a summer rainfall area.

Health Issues

Malaria occurs in some parts of the Lowveld regions of Mpumalanga. Visitors should take the usual precautions. If in doubt, consult a doctor. A good idea to alwayds carry insect repellent for your comfort.

Road Travel - Mpumalanga

Road conditions throughout the Mpumalanga province are generally good with a variety of scenic and alternate routes for the those looking for a little adventure. When exiting Johannesburg or O.R. Tambo International Airport take the N12 to Witbank. From Pretoria take the N4 through to Witbank and towns beyond. Only on reaching Belfast is it necessary to choose either the northern route through Dullstroom to Lydenburg and through to either Pilgrim’s Rest via R540 and the R36 or the R37 to Sabie over the scenic Long Tom Pass. The other alternative is to continue down the N4 and through the scenic Elands River Valley to Nelspruit, a more straightforward route.
